It has been said that "each species is the spoke in a magic wheel; to lose one is to diminish the whole." With your support, future generations will be able to enjoy the manatee, so much a part of Florida's unique and beautiful scene.
Jimmy Buffet, Co-Chairman, Save the Manatee Club

The Manatee Needs You:
pixwhite.gif (43bytes)
Without your support, future generations may not be fortunate enough to know these gentile, slow-moving aquatic mammals. Only about 2,400 manatees inhabit springs, rivers, estuaries, bays, and canals in parts of Florida. They feed on seagrasses and a variety of aquatic plants. Many manatees are needlessly killed by human activities such as collisions with boats, being crushed or drowned in floodgates and canal locks, ingestion of fish hooks, entanglement in monofilament line, crab trap lines and nets, and loss of their habitat and food sources to coastal development. Because they are an endangered species, they are protected by the federal Endangered Species Act, the Marine Mammal Protection Act and the Florida Manatee Sanctuary Act. But they remain at great risk and desperately need your help.
