The Manatee Needs You: Without your support, future generations may not be fortunate enough to know these gentile, slow-moving aquatic mammals. Only about 2,400 manatees inhabit springs, rivers, estuaries, bays, and canals in parts of Florida. They feed on seagrasses and a variety of aquatic plants. Many manatees are needlessly killed by human activities such as collisions with boats, being crushed or drowned in floodgates and canal locks, ingestion of fish hooks, entanglement in monofilament line, crab trap lines and nets, and loss of their habitat and food sources to coastal development. Because they are an endangered species, they are protected by the federal Endangered Species Act, the Marine Mammal Protection Act and the Florida Manatee Sanctuary Act. But they remain at great risk and desperately need your help.

Join The People Fighting To Save Manatees: The Save the Manatee Club was established in 1981 by former Governor Bob Graham and singer / songwriter Jimmy Buffett (who is co-chairman) to promote public awareness and education about the endangered manatee.

You Support Will: Help fund manatee research projects. Provide manatee warning signs in Florida waterways. Help to inform others about manatees through education and public awareness projects. Help to protect manatee habitat. Provide a power base to show state and national legislators that the survival of manatees and the protection of their habitat is important to you. Lobby for manatee and habitat protection. Provide inservice programs and education materials to teachers and students all over the world.

As A Member You Will Receive: A manatee adoption with adoption certificate, a photo and biography of an individual manatee, and a 28-page Membership Handbook. The Save the Manatee Club Newsletter four times a year.. Our catalog of gift items for sale. Invitations to special events either through the newsletter or by personal invitation.
